Hallelujah Praise God

By purplehymnal

The lyrics sound spritely and uplifting. The melody itself is a ponderous dirge.

Hallelujah Praise God

Sing unto the Eternal,
Sing your praises to Him;
Put your trust not in mortals,
for in them is no help.

Chorus:
Hallelujah! Praise God!
The Eternal shall reign!
He shall rein for all ages;
Our King and our God!

Sing unto the Eternal,
Sing your praises to Him;
He it was who made heaven,
earth and sea and all things.

Chorus.

Sing unto the Eternal,
Sing your praises to Him;
Let your hope be in Him;
He remains true forever;
He gives justice to all.

Chorus

Often reserved for the Feast of Trumpets or Pentecost, this moody two-verse filler was guaranteed to set one on “the straight path”, and gear up mentally for what was likely to be a long and torturous sermon ahead.

The xenophobia is in the first verse, the intelligent design is in the second verse, the judaic god is pictured clearly in the third verse, and the repetitive chorus numbed the mind just enough that the thought-reform would be the most effective.
